Real Madrid midfielder, Aurelien Tchouameni has leapt to the defence of Karim Benzema after the France forward was accused of skipping games to stay fit for the World Cup.

Benzema had missed Real Madrid’s final 3 matches before the World Cup break with muscle fatigue, leading to backlash from several fans.

Tchouameni who plays alongside Benzema at Real Madrid revealed his France compatriot has not played more for the Spanish champions because he wasn’t fully fit, SB Nation reports.

“Benzema is calm, he knows his body and he knows everything will be fine and that he will be ready to help his team when he’s better.
“He’s the world’s greatest, the top player, so it’s a pleasure to play alongside him. He’s used to being criticized and he hasn’t played more for Real Madrid because he wasn’t at 100%.”

Tchouameni and Benzema will hope to help France defend the World Cup trophy when the competition kicks off in Qatar on November 20.

Benzema wins Globe Soccer top award

Meanwhile, Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema received the Men's Player of the Year prize at the inaugural Globe Soccer Awards held in Dubai, Marca reports.

The Real Madrid striker now has yet another individual honour after winning the Ballon d'Or and the UEFA award for best player of the previous season.

Carlo Ancelotti also won the award for the best coach, while Real Madrid were named the best football club and Florentino Perez won the award for best president.

Karim Benzema debate rages on

That’s the question still doing the rounds after the French attacker missed Madrid’s final game before the World Cup against Cádiz. Madrid won the game 2-1.

Benzema has been absent recently with muscular problems and has missed Madrid’s last four games in La Liga. Madrid won two of those games, drew one, and lost one.
