As reported by Madrid Universal, the club are unsure whether to renew his contract or sell the defender.

The French player has become a regular in Madrid's left-back spot since signing from Lyon in 2019, but management is said to be unsure whether he brings value to the team.

Ancelotti's thoughts on Mendy?

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is said to be in favour of keeping the player and views him as being untouchable in the squad. On the other hand, some people associated with the club view Mendy as a weak link in the lineup. Many have compared Mendy with Madrid's former defender, Marcelo, and therefore don't rate him very highly.

A regular starter:

As noted by Transfermarkt, Mendy has played 17 games out of 21 for Madrid this season, highlighting that he is viewed as a first-team player. The Real Champs reported that Mendy is viewed as one of the problem areas in Madrid's defense.

The La Liga champions have looked shaky of late and suffered defeats in the Champions League and the league.

No contract renewal in sight

While Madrid have tied down some of their other stars to long-term contracts, they have yet to negotiate with Mendy. His contract at the club only expires in 2025, leaving Los Blancos in no rush to decide just yet on his future.

World Cup 2022: Big names miss out as Didier Deschamps names France squad

France head coach Didier Deschamps has unveiled his 25-man squad heading to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.

While the team features several prominent names, several familiar faces also failed to make the cut, Sports Brief reported.

Hugo Lloris, Kylian Mbappe, William Saliba, Karim Benzema, Olivier Giroud and Christopher Nkunku are some of the top names in the squad.
