Toni Kroos grabbed the headlines on Thursday night when he scored a long ranger in Real Madrid's victory over Cadiz.

Los Blancos started the game five points behind league leaders Barcelona and six ahead of third-placed Real Sociedad.

Carlo Ancelotti's men had to win the game to cut the distance ahead of them and maintain the breathing space behind.

Real Madrid took the lead after Eder Militao connected home a Kroos' cross inside the first-half.

The La Liga champions made it 2-0 in the 70th minute thanks to a brilliant strike from the German midfielder.

The 8-shirted man, after pouncing on a rebound outside the 18-yard box ,struck a well-calculated shot into the bottom left corner that caught goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma off guard.

Lucas Perez pulled one back for Cadiz in the final stages, ensuring second-place Madrid have not kept a clean sheet at home in La Liga this season and have conceded in seven consecutive league matches.

Real Madrid preparing Kroos contract

Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s top personalities are trying to get German midfielder Toni Kroos to renew his contract with the Spanish champions for one more year.

Kroos’ current deal with Los Blancos runs out at the end of the season, and the 32-year-old midfielder had hinted at retiring from football when his contract runs out.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has let Kroos know how valued he is and explained that his door is open when he wants to negotiate a new deal with the club.

Kroos will retire as Madrid player

Toni Kroos doesn’t know when he’s going to retire, but he does know where he’s going to retire, Sports Brief reported.

The Real Madrid midfielder, who turns 33 in January, is contracted to the Spanish club until the end of the season, but Madrid are trying to get him to sign an extension.

With his contract coming to an end, Kroos has toyed around with the thought of retirement but admitted that he does not know when that will be, IOL reported.
