  • Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has urged Spain to include former Los Blancos captain Sergio Ramos in their 2022 World Cup squad
  • Ramos has been listed in Luis Enrique’s 55-man provisional squad for Qatar 2022, after rediscovering his form this season for Paris Saint-Germain
  • Sergio Ramos has not featured for Spain since March 2021, after being plagued by injuries which ruled him out for several months last season

Paris Saint-Germain defender Sergio Ramos would be in Spain’s 23-man final squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, if it were all down to Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Ramos has been listed in Spain’s 55-man preliminary list for Qatar 2022 by manager Luis Enrique, despite having not featured for La Roja since March 2021.

Ancelotti, who has been a keen admirer of the veteran defender, has now called on Enrique to ensure he takes Ramos to the World Cup, as he still remains one of the world’s best defenders, ESPN reports.

"Without a doubt he should go to the World Cup, because of the quality he has. He is one of the best centre-backs in the world."

Ramos will be keen to win the World Cup for the second time in his career, after having played a key role in Spain clinching its first title in South Africa back in 2010.

Ramos in World Cup battle

Meanwhile, Ramos will have to battle hard to earn his place in Spain’s 23-man list for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to begin in Qatar on November 20.

Ramos will have to displace Spain’s established first-choice centre-back options of Aymeric Laporte, Inigo Martinez, Pau Torres and Eric Garcia to make Spain’s final cut, Marca reports.

Hugo Guillamon and Diego Llorente are the other centre-backs listed on Luis Enrique's 55-man provisional list ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

Sergio Ramos jokes with Messi

Earlier, Sports Brief reported most football fans are yet to come to terms with Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos sharing the same dressing room.

Messi and Ramos competed against each other during their days in the Spanish top flight, with the former featuring for FC Barcelona while the latter represented Real Madrid.

Considering Messi was a forward and Ramos a defender, they crossed each other's paths on regular basis - most notably during El Clasico.
