The centre-back was hailed by Madrid fans and neutrals alike, as he proved immense particularly against Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski.

@SahilGfx tweeted:

Pocketed Lewandowski like it was nothing. What a performance it was by him! Our best defender and arguably the best defender itw rn. A true big game player. Never disappoints when it matters the most. EDER MILITAO, LADIES AND GENTLEMAN!

@Loconteee posted:

Truth is that the performance of Èder Militão is not being appreciated enough. Proactive, very secure & always with the right decision, great awareness to situations he was dealing with and an absolute monster aerially. That’s him cementing his place as ELITE CB.

@MattWiltse4 said:

Militao went from having a very shaky end to last season to now performing at a world class level. He’s been a monster to start the season. Defending foot perfect vs Lewandowski thus far. Key will be maintaining this form for the season.

@muddassirjourno tweeted:

Militao deserves more praise than what I'm seeing.

@MiIitao also said:

Militao actually bullied Lewandoski its crazy

First-half strikes from Karim Benzema and Fede Valverde put daylight between the two sides but Ferran Torres halved the deficit, only for Brazilian youngster Rodrygo to dent Barca's revival hopes with a late penalty.

Lewandowski missed open goal opportunity

Sports Brief earlier reported that Robert Lewandowski had an underwhelming performance in his first-ever El Clasico since joining Barcelona in the summer.

Lewandowski, who has taken to life in La Liga like fish to water, was on the losing side as Real Madrid edged their bitterest rivals in the first instalment of El Clasico.

Despite setting up Barcelona's only goal in yet another disappointing outing, the usually prolific Polish striker was left rueing his golden opportunity in the first half.
