Los Blancos claimed bragging rights in the first El Clasico of the season as they ran out 3-1 winners over the Blaugrana.

Karim Benzema, Federico Valverde and Rodrygo all got onto the scoresheet as Madrid claimed the top spot on the La Liga table. Ferran Torres grabbed a goal back for Barca, but ultimately it meant nothing.

Barca Universal reported that while Barca players were licking their wounds following the defeat, Madrid supporters made matters worse by chanting, 'Europa League, you go to the Europa League'.

The chants are in reference to Barcelona possibly playing in the Europa League this season. The Catalan club drew with Inter Milan in the Champions League and now no longer have fate in their own hands.

Barca will need results to go their way in the other games if they are to progress to the round of 16 in the tournament. Xavi has also come under a lot of pressure following the Champions League results, with a section of fans calling for him to be sacked.

Unbeaten Real Madrid defeats Barcelona

Reigning champions Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 in El Clasico to overtake their fierce rivals at the top of La Liga on Sunday.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring in the 12th minute by converting a rebound after Marc-Andre ter Stegen saved against Vinicius Junior, with Fede Valverde drilling home the second from the edge of the box before the break.

Ferran Torres pulled one back for Barcelona in the final stages after good work by Ansu Fati, but Rodrygo won and converted a late penalty to ensure Carlo Ancelotti's side inflicted Barcelona's first domestic defeat of the season.
