  • The Frenchman has currently scored 325 goals to become the second highest scorer for Real Madrid

In-form Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has opened up on why he lost respect for now-AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho.

Back in December 2010, Mourinho who was the manager of the Los Blancos, compared the Frenchman to a cat during a press conference.

The Portuguese gaffer told reporters: "If I can't hunt with a dog, I will hunt with a cat. With a dog you hunt more and you hunt better.
"But if you have not got a dog and you have got a cat, you hunt with a cat."

And reflecting on how he felt after such comments from his manager, Benzema has said that that nickname if turning point in his relationship with the former Chelsea coach.

"We always had a good relationship, but after that, there were expressions and statements that were not necessarily well intended," Benzema told Canal Plus, quoted by AS.
"I had the impression that it made him laugh. Even if he’s someone I respect, after a while, I started to lose it. I told him what I had to say, which took an hour.

It now seems Benzema's lack of goals in his early years at Real Madrid is now a distant memory.

The 34-year-old is currently the second highest scorer in Real Madrid's history with 325, only bettered by Cristiano Ronaldo who has 450 goals to his name.

The France international is currently gunning to be crowned the 2022 Ballon d'Or, having played key roles in Madrid's triumph in the UEFA Champions League and La Liga respectively.

Manchester City Striker Erling Haaland Makes Bold Comparison Between Himself and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Erling Haaland has revealed that Real Madrid's striker Karim Benzema is his inspiration. Haaland has opened up that he would like to replicate Benzema's achievements in a City shirt.

Haaland joined Manchester City earlier in the summer after the Premier League Champions activated his release clause from Borussia Dortmund.

As expected, he has walked into Pep Guardiola's starting lineups, featuring from the start in all of the four games that City have played so far this season.
