Manchester United have ended their interest in signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong following the signing of Casemiro.

The Red Devils have reportedly agreed to complete a deal worth £60 million for the Real Madrid midfielder.

Erik ten Hag has been on the market all summer to land a defensive midfielder since taking charge at Old Trafford in May this year.

But Dutch manager has finally settled for Casemiro after failing to sign his fellow countryman De Jong.

And according to BBC reporter Simon Stone states that the deal for the Brazilian midfielder to join the Old Trafford outfit almost certainly spells the end of their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong.

Barcelona were unable to persuade the Dutchman to leave the club as United chose to pursue other targets - but it took them some time to settle on Casemiro.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid believe the defensive midfield position is well-covered as they have Aurelien Tchouameni, Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga.

The Madrid hierarchy expects Tchouameni to play a key role in the starting eleven rather than stay on the bench after spending close to €100m to prise him away from AS Monaco last month.

Valverde and Camavinga have also proven to be versatile enough to play the defensive midfield

The Three Main Reasons Why Casemiro Wants to Join Manchester United

There are three factors pushing Casemiro to seriously think about moving to Manchester, Sports Brief earlier reported.

The first reason is that Casemiro feels his time at Real Madrid is over after winning 15 major trophies, including 5 Champions League titles.

Secondly, 30-year-old Casemiro wants to experience a new environment. This is the main reason that persuaded Raphael Varane to make the switch to England last summer.
