  • Germany icon Bastian Schweinsteiger believes there is no better striker in the world than Karim Benzema
  • Benzema scored in Real Madrid's 2-0 win over Frankfurt to become the second-highest goalscorer in the history of the Spanish club
  • The France international was in top form last season after he steered Real Madrid to La Liga and Champions League victories

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has said that Karim Benzema is the best striker in the world at the moment.

Benzema scored 50 goals for both club and country and emerged as the top scorer for Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League and the Spanish La Liga respectively.

His most memorable performances came in the Champions League when he scored back-to-back hat tricks against Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals and round of 16, respectively.

The Frenchman was also on target yet again for the Whites as they defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 to clinch the 2022 UEFA Super Cup.

And according to the former Germany international, there's no better striker in the world than Benzema.

"Currently the best center forward of the world - not only the goals he scores are impressive," Schweinsteiger wrote on Twitter.
"For me, it’s exceptional how intelligent he is moving off the ball. No doubt he will win the Ballon d‘Or 2022."

Why does Karim Benzema need the bandages?

If you’ve watched Karim Benzema play in the past three years, it’s hard not to notice his bandaged right hand during games.

The iconic bandaged hand has become synonymous with the player and takes centre stage during his fist pump goal celebration.

Sporting News reported that the bandages are there for medical reasons. In 2019, Benzema broke the pinky finger on his right hand during a game against Real Betis.

The French striker required surgery to fix his finger, but the operation and rehab would have sidelined him for two months. Benzema opted against surgery and returned to playing for Madrid.

Real Madrid Duo Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior Receive Top UEFA Awards

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Real Madrid duo Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior were presented with special awards by UEFA before their Super Cup clash against Frankfurt.

Benzema was adjudged the best player for the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League season while Vinicius was named the best young player in the same competition.

The Frenchman notched 15 goals and 2 assists while the Brazilian winger contributed with 4 goals and 7 assists, including the match-winner in the final against Liverpool.
