The 2022 UEFA Super Cup will bring the reunion of old teammates David Alaba, Toni Kroos, Mario Gotze, and Sebastian Rode who now ply their trades in Spain and Germany respectively.

All four players had featured for Bayern Munich in their careers and will be reunited again when Real Madrid tackles Eintracht Frankfurt in the Super Cup on Wednesday, August 10.

According to Bundesliga, Alaba, Götze, and Kroos teamed up to help Bayern Munich to a 2013/14 league and cup double while Kroos and Rode played together for Germany's U17 team on three occasions as youngsters.

In addition, Rode went on to play 52 times in two seasons for Bayern Munich, teaming up with Alaba and Götze to defend their 2014–15 Bundesliga championship.

Both David Alaba and Toni Kroos now represent La Liga giants Real Madrid while Mario Gotze, and Sebastian Rode will dawn the colours of Eintracht Frankfurt when both teams meet in the UEFA Super Cup.

Michael Oliver to referee 2022 UEFA Super Cup

Meanwhile, UEFA has announced England's Michael Oliver will be the referee for the 2022 UEFA Super Cup between Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt at Helsinki Olympic Stadium on Wednesday 10 August.

Oliver who has been an international referee since 2012, will be assisted by countrymen Stuart Burt and Simon Bennett. Lithuania's Donatas Rumšas will act as the fourth official.

The European football governing body also announced that the Semi-Automated Offside Technology (SAOT) will premiere in European club competitions at the UEFA Super Cup.

Real Madrid motivated ahead of Frankfurt Super Cup clash

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Real Madrid are determined not to be knocked off their perch at the summit of European football this season.

The UEFA Champions League winners are already preparing to start their campaign against Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup in Helsinki on Wednesday.

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, who is the only manager to win the Champions League four times, said his side's 1-0 victory over Liverpool in last season's final made him "feel like no one should ever take your place".
