  • Eden Hazard has admitted that he felt relieved after Kylian Mbappe decided to reject Real Madrid's overtures and remain at Paris Saint Germain
  • The former Chelsea star explained that getting into the team sheet at Real Madrid was already hard enough and Mbappe would have complicated issues further
  • Hazard has already said that he hopes to put his injury woes behind him and play his best football in a Real Madrid shirt

Eden Hazard has expressed his satisfaction with Kylian Mbappe not joining Real Madrid. Hazard has argued that competition for places could have become tougher.

Mbappe was widely expected to move to Real Madrid this summer upon the completion of his Paris Saint-Germain contract. He however made a complete turnaround and extended his PSG stay by three years in the biggest football deal ever.

Hazard has now come out to explain that the failed move could be a blessing in disguise. The Belgian has struggled for form since joining the Los Blancos from Chelsea in 2019.

He has been hampered by injuries, restricting him to only six starts this season.

Mercato Sports reports that Hazard feels relieved that the French superstar won't be playing in the Spanish capital.

This is rather good news. Competition for places is already tough at Real, but with Kylian Mbappé, they would have become even tougher. Now I have to show the coach that I'm ready, that I can play. But since my operation, I feel better. Nothing will change in my way of approaching things. All my successes are also due to the way I approached them.

The 31-year-old intends to turn over a new leaf next season and deliver impressive performances for Madrid.

Eden Hazard receives a warm welcome after winning the Champions League

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Eden Hazard joined a growing list of Real Madrid players to have received a rousing reception on their arrival in their respective national teammates.

Hazard, who is currently in the Belgium national team camp, got a guard of honour from his national team teammates as the Red Devils prepare for their UEFA Nations League matches.

Despite being an unused substitute in last Saturday's final, Hazard earned his first Champions League winner's medal as Madrid pipped Liverpool to their 14th European title.
