Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has been adjudged as the best French player abroad by the UNFP (the French Professional Footballers' Union).
The 34-year-old who has enjoyed an excellent season beat competition from countrymen Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona), Theo Hernandez (AC Milan), N'Golo Kanté (Chelsea) and Mike Maignan (Milan) to clinch the individual accolade.
Benzema has now won the prestigious award three times in a row after scooping it in 2019 and 2021 (in 2020 it was not awarded due to the emergence of the novel coronavirus).
In a post on Twitter, sighted by Sports Brief, the French forward expressed his gratitude for annexing the award.
He was given a much-needed rest by Carlo Ancelotti in Real Madrid's penultimate La Liga game against Cadiz, which ended in a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
