Cádiz came out fighting from the first whistle and looked like the higher-ranked team. Despite their brisk start, it was Real who took the lead in as early as the fight minute through Mariano Diaz.

Rodygro was responsible for the assist, continuing his great run of form of late. Cádiz started to push forward again with Alvaro Negredo proving to be a menace. The match continued back and forth with both teams trying to score until Cádiz eventually did. Ruben Sobrino equalised in the 37th minute as the home side attacked constantly.

Cádiz then pushed forward for a second and were unlucky not to get it. The ball ping-ponged around the Madrid box but could not find its way in.

That proved to be the story of the second half as well. Cádiz could not seem to force the ball in, no matter how hard they tried. They were even given a penalty when Andriy Lunin brought Negredo down in the box but Negredo saw his effort saved by Andriy Lunin.

Ledesma is the other goal was also kept busy as Real looked to find a winner. The second half was intense as both sides traded attacks.

The home side supporters were raucous as they spurred their side on but went very quiet in the 92nd minute when news broke that Mallorca had taken the lead against Real Vallecano.

There was late drama as a Cádiz player was brought down in the box on the stroke of full time. The referee blew the final whistle, despite the VAR check ongoing. Cádiz fans who watched the reply on the big screen felt hard done by the decision and were extra annoyed when the referee showed a few Cádiz players yellow cards for protesting his decision.
