  • Ancelotti refused to give anything away on Rudiger's imminent arrival by comically asking, ''Who's this."
  • Rudiger will be a free agent in the summer and Real Madrid are the frontrunners to land his signature
  • Negotiation contract talks with Chelsea didn't bear any fruit considering the sanctions on the club at the moment

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti remained mum over Antonio Rudiger’s possible arrival in the summer. Ancelloti was asked about the defender’s situation after their Champions League semifinal loss to Manchester City.

The Italian manager evaded the question comically by asking,

Antonio Rudiger...Who’s this?

The Spanish giants have been the frontrunners to sign Rudiger on a free transfer. The German defender has chosen not to renew his contract with Chelsea, which expires at the end of the current season.

Other factors like the sanctions imposed by the British Government on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich have also played a hand. Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel recently revealed that the club tried everything it could.

How Ancelotti could use Rudiger

It has been rumoured that Madrid has swiftly moved in for Rudiger. Other top teams like Paris Saint Germain and Bayern Munich had also expressed interest. Metro UK reports that Ancelotti isn’t ready to admit that just yet.

He is a Chelsea player. He’s still a Chelsea player. I cannot say nothing about this.

Rudiger’s move to Madrid will be a big windfall for the Los Blancos. The defender has had his career revitalized under Thomas Tuchel. He was an outcast under former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard. But Tuchel’s arrival in January last year, saw the defender establish his place in the starting 11.

He has formed part of the formidable Chelsea defence that won the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup. The 29-year old has often been deployed on the left-hand side of Tuchel’s three-man defence.

His addition to the La Liga leaders will be a welcome move for Ancelotti. His arrival could prompt Ancelloti to pair him with Brazilian Eder Militao and move David Alaba to left-back to cover for the injury-prone Ferland Mendy.

Rudiger to be paid handsomely

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Rudiger is in line to get a massive paycheck when he moves to the Spanish capital. Real Madrid are understood to be readying a four-year contract.

His weekly wages will also be tripled and he will earn 300,000 euros per week. The cumulative paycheck for the four years will be close to 60 million euros.
