Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu has emerged as a transfer target for a club from the Saudi Pro League, according to reports, with the 29-year-old’s exceptional goalscoring form in Turkey this season drawing attention from multiple directions ahead of the summer window.
Onuachu has been one of the standout performers in the Turkish Super Lig during the 2025/26 campaign, registering 24 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions. Of those, 22 have come in league action, placing him at the top of the Golden Boot standings with four matches of the season still to play. His nearest challenger, Eldor Shomurodov of Istanbul Basaksehir, trails by four goals.
According to recent reports, an unnamed Saudi Pro League club is preparing a formal offer for the Nigerian international. The proposed package is said to include a salary four to five times higher than what Onuachu currently earns at Trabzonspor — a figure that sources suggest could prove difficult to turn down. Any transfer fee received would also give Trabzonspor the financial flexibility to reinvest in their squad ahead of next season.
Onuachu rejoined Trabzonspor last summer for a second stint at the Black Sea club, having previously represented them during an earlier spell in his career. He is currently under contract with the club until 2028, meaning Trabzonspor retain significant leverage in any potential negotiations.
The striker’s contributions have been central to Trabzonspor’s title challenge this season, keeping the club mathematically in contention for the Super Lig championship. However, with four games remaining and a four-goal lead in the scoring charts, Onuachu’s personal priority in the short term is understood to be securing the Golden Boot before turning his attention to decisions about his future.
Interest from Saudi Arabia fits a broader pattern in European football, where the Saudi Pro League has aggressively recruited top-level talent over recent seasons. The league has previously signed high-profile players from across Europe and has increasingly targeted players in their peak years rather than those winding down their careers.
For Onuachu, a move to Saudi Arabia would represent a significant shift. The 6ft 7in centre-forward has spent the majority of his career in Europe, with stints at clubs including Midtjylland in Denmark, Genk in Belgium — where he set a Belgian Pro League single-season scoring record — and Southampton in the Premier League. His return to Trabzonspor last summer was seen as an opportunity to rebuild his profile following a difficult period at Southampton, and by any measure the gamble has paid off.
At international level, Onuachu continues to be part of the Super Eagles setup under head coach Eric Chelle, with Nigeria preparing for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. A high-profile club move this summer could strengthen or complicate his standing in the national team picture, depending on the playing time he secures at his new destination.
No official confirmation of an offer or transfer talks has been made by Trabzonspor or any Saudi club at the time of publication.
