Super Eagles centre-forward Paul Onuachu could be heading to the Saudi Pro League this summer, according to reports from Nigerian sports broadcaster Buchi Laba, who claims an unnamed Middle Eastern club is ready to quadruple the striker’s current salary to secure his signature ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Onuachu, 31, has been in commanding form during the 2025/26 campaign with Trabzonspor, registering 24 goals and two assists across 29 appearances in all competitions for the Black Sea Storm. That remarkable return has reportedly placed him firmly on the radar of Saudi-based clubs known for their willingness to offer lucrative contracts to top foreign talent.
The reported interest is described as serious, with the unidentified club understood to have formally registered their intent. No further details regarding the club’s identity or the specific salary figures involved have been confirmed at this stage, and the information should be treated as unconfirmed until official announcements are made.
Should Onuachu make the move, he would follow a growing number of Nigerian international attackers who have taken the Saudi route in recent years. Odion Ighalo is perhaps the most decorated of that group, having claimed the Saudi Professional League Golden Boot while also winning the league title during his time with Al-Hilal. Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa and veteran forward Anthony Nwakaeme are among the other prominent Nigerian forwards to have represented clubs in the Kingdom.
Onuachu’s current season with Trabzonspor has been particularly significant on a personal level. The towering striker recently completed a rare statistical or achievement milestone in Turkish football — a feat that has drawn further attention to his contributions in the Süper Lig this term.
The Saudi Pro League has aggressively recruited global talent in recent seasons, with clubs backed by substantial financial resources targeting established players from Europe’s top leagues as well as emerging stars from African football. For a player of Onuachu’s profile and age, a quadrupling of salary would represent a transformative financial proposition.
Onuachu joined Trabzonspor after previous stints at clubs including Midtjylland, Kortrijk, and Southampton, where his time in the Premier League was hampered by limited opportunities. His resurgence in Turkey has re-established him as one of the more productive strikers outside of Europe’s traditional top five leagues.
The summer transfer window is expected to open in June, and further clarity on Onuachu’s situation is likely to emerge as the end of the Turkish Süper Lig season approaches. Trabzonspor’s stance on a potential departure has not yet been made public.
