Neymar Junior, Robert Lewandowski, Jude Bellingham, Luka Modric, Casemiro, Gavi and Pedri are also some of the superstars shortlisted for this year's best XI.

Vinicius excluded from World XI

Meanwhile, Real Madrid forward, Vinicius Junior did not make the 2022 FIFPRO World XI shortlist despite an outstanding season for the Spanish giants, The Sun reports.

The Brazilian played an integral role for his club last season, as Los Blancos cruised to the Spanish Super Cup, the UEFA Champions League and the La Liga titles.

Vinicius was also named in Brazil’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where the five-time champions were eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Mbappe, Messi return to training

Sports Brief also reported on Mbappe and Messi giving Paris Saint-Germain a major injury boost ahead of the first leg of their UCL round-of-16 clash with Bayern Munich.

The Frenchman, who is the competition's joint top scorer, sustained an injury earlier this month and was a doubt for the all-important showdown on Tuesday.

But it appears Mbappe has miraculously recovered just in time for the tie, boosting the chances of the Parisians, who are winless in their last two games.
