Achraf Hakimi was undoubtedly one of the stars of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar last year. The Paris Saint-Germain full-back has always been a revelation for his national side, and it was no different in their charge to the semifinals.

He didn't score the beautiful free-kicks he bagged during the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon but was part of a defence that only conceded an own goal at the tournament before the semis.

His Panenka-winning penalty against Spain to book Morocco's first-ever appearance in the quarterfinals was also something of beauty.

But, as his father Hassan Hakimi will tell you, the rise to stardom wasn't easy. Hakimi Senior has come out to express his joy and gratitude for how his son's career has turned out after a difficult childhood.

Achraf Hakimi's childhood

Hakimi has in the past narrated how his mother cleaned houses while his father was a street vendor. The 24-year-old was born in Spain to Moroccan parents. Wikipedia reports that he joined the Real Madrid youth set-up in 2006.

Hassan has explained how he used to wait for his son after taking him to the training sessions.

"I used to drive 100 kilometres every day to take my son to Real Madrid. I am glad how his career has turned out. It gives me joy to see him succeed. I ask parents to make sacrifices for their children. I thank God for everything," said Hassan as quoted by Magrib Foot.

Hakimi was never fully appreciated at Real Madrid and was sent out on loan before being sold to Inter Milan. He is now plying his professional trade in France with PSG.

Hakimi's moment with his mother

Sports Brief had earlier reported that marauding Morocco wing-back Achraf Hakimi demonstrated his pure love for his mother, following his penalty heroics against Spain.

Hakimi scored a sensational game-winning Panenka penalty, as his nation punched their ticket to the quarterfinals of the World Cup at the expense of the Europeans.

On the back of his heroics and the North Africans' historic milestone, the Paris Saint-Germain right-back found his way into the stands to share the moment with his mother.

Hakimi's mother's profile

Sports Brief has also reported that Hakimi's mother, Sadia Mouth, was born in Morocco, where her husband was also born, before they made a big move to Spain.

Mouth has two grandchildren; both are the children of Hakimi and his long-time girlfriend, Hiba Abouk, an actress from the European country.
