Former Paris Saint-German Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino has aimed a subtle dig at Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

Pochettino was relieved of his duties at the start of this season, with his inability to win the Champions League mooted as the main reason behind his sacking.

Despite their enormous spending in recent years, PSG have never won the elusive European title. enormous. Pochettino reached the semi-finals in his first season, where he was eliminated by Manchester City before a Karim Benzema masterclass dumped them out at the round of 16 stage last season.

Pep Guardiola

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss has now taken a swipe at Guardiola, claiming that he should have been sacked years ago for not winning a Champions League title with Manchester City. City are in the same boat as PSG.

"If I left PSG for not winning the Champions League, Guardiola should have been sacked 7 or 8 times," as quoted by Sport Bible.

Guardiola's Champions League career at Manchester City has been marked with near misses. In the last two seasons, he has been beaten in the final by Chelsea before a crazy stoppage-time against Real Madrid dumped him out last season.

Pochettino is yet to find a new club, while Guardiola will be looking to break the curse. City play RB Leipzig in the round of 16.

Pochettino open to EPL return

Sports Brief had earlier reported that former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted to missing being on the touchline in the Premier League, and being keen to return if an offer comes.

Pochettino's last job in the Premier League was at Tottenham Hotspur. He was sacked in November 2019 after five years in charge and no silverware, and he has also managed Southampton.

His last managerial job was at the club he had a playing career with: Paris Saint-Germain. He replaced Thomas Tuchel and by the time the German was sacked at Chelsea, the Argentine was already jobless.
