Argentina celebrated wildly for over an hour in the dressing room at the Lusail Stadium following their vital 2-0 win over Mexico on Saturday night.

The South Americans suffered a shock defeat at the hands of minnows Saudi Arabia in their 2022 World Cup opener.

The result invariably ended Argentina's 36-game unbeaten run dating back to 2019, thus putting overwhelming pressure on La Albiceleste in their second group game against Mexico.

Enzo Fernandez then curled the ball into the top right corner after receiving a pass from Messi after a short corner to make it 2-0 for Lionel Scaloni's side.

Argentina players were clearly relieved at avoiding a defeat that would have seen them eliminated from the competition after post-game celebrations emerged online.

The reigning Copa America champions may still need to beat Poland or draw in their final game of the group in order secure qualification to the next round, but that did not stop them from celebrating in their locker room.

In a video posted on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, the players inside the dressing room can be seen dancing to loud South American music as they celebrate on-pitch success with a singsong.

Messi's family celebrate against Mexico

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi's family was in attendance at the Lusail Stadium as Argentina beat Mexico to get their first win at the 2022 World Cup.

Messi's wife, Antonella Roccuzzo and her three sons, Mateo, Ciro and Thiago, plus Messi's father, Jorge Messi, were among the fans in Doha to watch another iconic performance from the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Messi opened the scoring in the 64th minute with a rasping shot to send the stadium into a frenzy. A video showing Rocuzzo's and her son's reactions has emerged online, with relief written all over their faces.

Emotional scenes after Messi's goal

Sports Brief also reported that Lionel Messi scored a stunning goal for Argentina in their second World Cup group game against Mexico. The value placed on Messi's goal was best expressed by an Argentine fan at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, who could not help but shed tears after witnessing the goal.

Messi's Argentina were consigned to a shock defeat at the hands of minnows Saudi Arabia in their 2022 World Cup opener.

Argentina had to win against El Tri at all costs to avoid an early exit, which will dent the greatest of all-time status of Lionel Messi, who revealed the 2022 World Cup would be his last at the global showpiece.
