Hakimi in a post on social media hailed Sergio Ramos as the best defender in the world after it was confirmed Spain’s all-time appearance maker won’t be on the plane to Qatar.

Ramos holds the record as the most capped Spanish international with 180 caps for La Roja and was part of Spain’s historic squad that won the 2010 World Cup for the first time in the nation’s history.

Enrique insists he picked Spain’s best squad

Meanwhile, Luis Enrique claims his team has enough experience to win the World Cup after leaving out seasoned players Thiago Alcantara and Sergio Ramos, Metro UK reports.

Ramos, who has the most international appearances for the 2010 champions but hasn't represented his nation since March 2021, will be absent from the trip to Qatar.

Prior to beginning their Group E campaign against Costa Rica on November 23, Spain will play a pre-World Cup friendly against Jordan on November 17.

Sergio Ramos dropped from Spain’s World Cup squad

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Sergio Ramos will not have another chance to add more laurels to his national team collection after failing to make the cut for Spain’s 26-man squad for Qatar 2022.

Luis Enrique opted against taking the veteran Paris Saint-Germain star to the World Cup in preference for younger defenders such as Barcelona’s Eric Garcia.

The Spanish boss didn't select PSG defender Ramos, despite the centre-back having won 180 caps for Spain and being the most capped player in his national team's history.
