Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah are currently leading the chase for the Golden Boot in the Champions League, after scoring 6 goals in 5 matches each.

The Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool superstars have been in perfect shape in recent weeks for their respective clubs.

The pair also currently boasts of the highest number of shots on target registered in Europe's premier club competition, with Mbappe registering 11 shots and Salah notching 10.

The Frenchman struck twice in PSG's 7-2 thrashing of Maccabi Haifa on Tuesday before being joined by the Egyptian king, who was on the score sheet against Ajax at Johan Cruijff Arena on Wednesday.

They have leapfrogged Manchester City's Erling Haaland and Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, who were all tied on five goals after matchday 4.

Haaland netted brace against Copenhagen in the third round of matches. That took him clear in the race yet the Norway international missed out on matchday 4, giving his competitors a chance to close in.

Poland captain Lewandowski scored twice to earn a point for the Catalan outfit against Inter at Camp Nou, while Salah bagged a hat-trick against Rangers.

Which teams have qualified?

Sports Brief earlier reported that this season's Champions League group stage matches are entering their penultimate stage with just one round of fixtures left.

Twelve teams have already booked their spots in the Round 16 of the Champions League, with four more facing an anxious wait ahead of the final round.

Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich headline the long list of teams set to participate in the last 16.
