  • Lionel Messi has already been taken off three times this season, sparking questions about Christophe Galtier's decisions
  • Messi himself is, however, reportedly unbothered as he sees it as an opportunity to remain fresh ahead of World Cup duty with Argentina
  • The prolific star has, for the first time in his career, fallen prey to a star-studded squad with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe seemingly ahead of him now

Lionel Messi has found himself in rather unfamiliar territory this season of being taken off by his head coach Christophe Galtier.

Messi is used to completing the 90 minutes provided he is fit, irrespective of how the scoreline looks.

His record of going a whole eight years without being substituted in a Champions League match came to an end on Tuesday when he was hooked off at the 84th minute during PSG's clash against Juventus.

The Argentine wizard has now been taken off a record three times by Galtier. Of the three, the substitution in Monaco's game when PSG direly needed Messi's ingenuity to maintain their perfect start raised some eyebrows.

His reaction afterwards suggested somebody who was pissed off by the coach's decision. However, as El Futbolero reports, Messi is not worried about his substitution.

Messi has one eye on the World Cup already

In fact, it is understood that he is for the idea as he seeks to arrive in Qatar later this year in optimal condition. Messi will be making another stab and probably his last at winning the World Cup.

Argentina are one of the favourites to dethrone France and Messi is aiming to keep fit and not be overstrained by the congested run of fixtures at PSG.

Unlike how he reacted last season when he was substituted off by former manager Mauricio Pochettino, it's safe to say that Messi is happy with Galtier's decisions. Either that or Galtier is just a strict tactician who doesn't give a hoot about Messi's CV.

Kylian Mbappe sends a strong message to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has appeared to declare himself as the heir apparent of the Lionel Messi's and Cristiano Ronaldo's throne.

Mbappe has been widely touted as the next superstar to take over the two arch-nemesis who have dominated football headlines for over 10 years plus.

The pair has 12 Ballon d'Ors between them, among many other individual and collective awards. Mbappe, meanwhile, has lit up the football world since making his debut at the age of 17.
