  • Kylian Mbappe has revealed that his relationship with Neymar is not always that great, but they have mutual respect for one another
  • The two prolific stars were involved in a penalty dispute last month that highlighted the strained relationship between the pair
  • Mbappe was reported to have pushed for a Neymar exit, but the club failed to find any potential suitors for the world's most expensive star

Kylian Mbappe has downplayed any possible rift between him and his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Neymar.

The two star players have reportedly been involved in an ego battle that was brought to the fore last month after they publicly clashed for a penalty.

This came after weeks of intense speculation that PSG wanted to offload Neymar to appease Mbappe. They tried offering him to Manchester City on the final day of the transfer window, but the deal fell through.

Mbappe has now admitted that his relationship with the Brazilian is always not great, but they try to make it work, as quoted by Goal.

It is my sixth year with Neymar. We have always had a relationship like this, based on respect, sometimes colder and sometimes warmer. I have great respect for him and his influence on the team.

The French star also addressed the club's penalty-taking duties that have been the bone of contention. PSG head coach Christophe Galtier had declared Mbappe the first-choice taker, but Mbappe insists it doesn't have to be that way.

Being first-choice doesn't mean you're going to take all penalties. You have to know how to divide the cake.

The two forwards will be at the centre of PSG's quest to finally win their first Champions League title when the new season gets underway with a clash at home against Italian giants Juventus.

PSG boss warns Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar over playing time

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier has cautioned the trio of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar over playing time.

The trio has been in fine shape since the start of the season, firing from all cylinders to send PSG to the top of the French Ligue 1 standings.

Neymar and Mbappe have scored an eyewatering 14 goals between them since the start of the new campaign, with Messi bagging three and six assists.
