  • Neymar is understood to be ready to retire from international football with many assuming the World Cup later this year might be his last

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar has tipped Rodrygo to take over from him once he retires from international football.

Neymar has in the past been critical of himself and the fans alike and has hinted at taking an early break from his duties with the national side.

Many assume that the FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be the last contribution for the 30-year-old. Brazil will be looking to win the World Cup for the first time in 20 years.

And even before he exits the stage, the talismanic forward has reportedly declared that he wishes to have Real Madrid teenager Rodrygo take over his coveted number 10 shirt. This was according to Rodrygo himself who was speaking in the Podpah podcast as quoted by the Mirror.

'I'm already leaving the national team and 10 is yours'. I didn't even know what to say to him. I was embarrassed, I giggled and didn't even know what to say properly. I told him that he has to play some more, that I didn't want to know and stuff. And then he had a laugh.

There is no denying that Rodrygo is certainly a star in the making both at club level and international level. His best performance arguably in a Real Madrid shirt came in the Champions League when he came from the bench to score twice against Manchester City in the semi-final.

Neymar's private jet forced into an emergency landing

Sports Brief had also reported that Neymar's private jet was forced into an emergency landing minutes after leaving Barbados, where he has been enjoying his off-season holiday.

It is not yet clear whether Neymar was onboard the plane at the time. He had, however, share photos on the runway on his Instagram account just a few hours before the incident.

The Brazilian star owns an Embraer Legacy 450 Private jet, but the report has not ascertained if this was the plane involved in the scare.
