  • Lionel Messi is seemingly enjoying a break from competitive football after the star shared an amazing photo on his social media account
  • Messi went through a strange season in his career after switching to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona at the start of last season
  • He will be hoping to lead his national side Argentina to World Cup glory later this year in Qatar

Lionel Messi has posted a stunning photo with his wife Antonella Rocuzzo as he continues his vacation.

Messi posted the lovey-dovey photo with the sun setting in the background.

It hasn't been disclosed where the Paris Saint-Germain star was, but he seemed to be enjoying his break after an indifferent season for him.

Messi made the switch from Barcelona to PSG in a shock transfer last summer. Barcelona were unable to renew his contract due to the financial constraints of the club and PSG swooped in to sign him on a free transfer.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner finished the season with a paltry five goals, which is way below his expected standards. He, however, supplied 13 assists as PSG strode on to win the Ligue 1 title.

The Argentine wizard enjoyed a remarkable international break with his national side. He put in a man-of-the-match display against Italy as Argentina won the Finalissima. He then scored five goals against Estonia in a friendly in what was his last game of the season.

Messi, who turns 35 this week, will be hoping for a better second year in Paris. The French giants have invested heavily in recent years in pursuit of the elusive Champions League.

He will then take a break and head to Qatar with the national side, where they are firm favourites to win the FIFA World Cup. Argentina, under Lionel Scaloni, are unbeaten in 34 consecutive matches. They will face Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Poland in Group C.

Luka Modric names Argentina as his World Cup favourites

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Luka Modric has touted Argentina as strong favourites to win the World Cup later this year.

The Croatian captain has claimed that Argentina are a good team and the addition of Lionel Messi makes them practically unplayable. Argentina have placed themselves in a prime position to win football’s greatest trophy by winning the Copa America and the Finalissima trophies.

The side will be hoping to go one better than their 2014 exploits where they reached the final and lost to Germany.
