Lionel Messi’s Argentine teammates are determined to help the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Messi has failed to win the most coveted football trophy so far, coming close in 2014 when Argentina lost the final to Germany in Brazil.

In-bound Manchester City striker, Julian Alvarez believes football owes Messi the World Cup and that the Argentine icon will cement his legacy as football’s greatest ever player if he achieves winning the World Cup in his career, Goal reports.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward fancies his chances of winning this year’s edition after ending his international trophy drought by winning the 2021 Copa America trophy.

Messi also led La Albiceleste to Finalissima glory after Argentina whitewashed Italy 3-0, with the 34-year-old playing one of his best games this season.

Messi admits 2022 World Cup could be his last

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi is considering retiring from international football immediately after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Daily Mirror reports.

Messi plans on following the footsteps of fellow teammate, Angel Di Maria, who has confirmed he will be retiring from the Argentine national team after the tournament in Qatar.

Both Messi and Di Maria have been teammates since 2005 when they both won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup together and also the 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medal with Argentina.

Lionel Messi makes acting debut on Argentine TV series

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Paris Saint-Germain superstar, Lionel Messi, has made his acting debut on an Argentine TV series.

It is understood this is the first time the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is playing an acting role in a TV show.

Messi was named as a "special guest" on the show dubbed "Los Protectores" and it remains unclear how long the footie star will feature in the series.
