Argentine Legend Messi Under Attack As Former France Midfielder Brands Move From Barcelona to PSG ‘A Failure’

  • Lionel Messi was forced to leave Barcelona last summer due to the financial situation of the Spanish club at the time
  • The Argentine legend then moved to agree to a blockbuster deal with French club PSG but has not been able to replicate his stunning form in Paris
  • Ex-PSG star Mathieu Bodmer is not impressed with the arrival of the superstar, as he branded the transfer 'a failure’

Former France and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Mathieu Bodmer has criticised Lionel Messi’s move from Spanish giants Barcelona to the Ligue 1 outfit last summer.

Messi was moved to tears as he could no longer continue at Barcelona following the club’s financial situation at the end of last season.

The 34-year-old then agreed to a deal to join PSG on a free transfer, but despite helping the side win the league title in France in his debut season, his move has been criticised, PSG Talk reports.

PSG failed in their quest for the Coupe de France title and they also crashed out of the UEFA Champions League in an astonishing fashion.

And this has forced the club fans to subject some of the players with whistles and boos including Messi, and the latest to criticise the Argentine is French football pundit Mathieu Bodmer.

He labelled the arrival of the Argentine a failure on RMC Sport:

“Sportingly, yes, it is a failure. [Messi] has interesting statistics for an ordinary player. I would have liked to have such statistics. But here, we are talking about Lionel Messi. We have known him with 50-goal seasons, doing incredible things while carrying his team.
“Today, he is almost 35 years old; we will never see the same Lionel Messi again. We know that PSG attaches great importance to marketing, and, there, his arrival is not at all a failure.

Jorge Messi wants his son to return to Barcelona

Sports Brief earlier reported that Lionel Messi's father, Jorge Messi, has admitted that he hopes the football star will return to Barcelona one day.

Messi ended his almost two-decade spell with the La Liga giants last summer to seal a sensational switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite the forward's exit from the Camp Nou, the prospect of him making a return to the club has been lingering, with the current boss, Xavi, conceding the door will always be left open for the forward to reunite with the Spanish giants.
