  • Lionel Messi returns to Barcelona with his wife for a holiday at a restaurant owned by his former teammate Luis Suarez
  • Messi was joined by the current Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets and a couple of other friends in the beachside eatery
  • The Argentine has already won the French Ligue One with Paris Saint Germain in his debut season despite low individual returns

Paris Saint Germain superstar Lionel Messi took some time off to enjoy a holiday in Spain. Messi flew to Spain with his wife Antonela Rocuzzo and was pictured enjoying a meal with his former teammate Sergio Busquets.

Messi was eating at a hotel owned by one of his closest friends Luis Suarez. Suarez however didn’t manage to make it to the reunion. He owns the beachside eatery of Chalito in Barcelona.

Busquets and Messi spent time together with other friends in lovely photos shared by Rocuzzo on her Instagram page.

Messi left for PSG early this season and Busquets was promoted to be Barcelona’s captain.

The two have gone through in-different seasons. Messi has won the Ligue One title with PSG in his debut season. He flew to Barcelona on the back of a 3-3 draw with Champions League-chasing Strasbourg.

The French giants had however wrapped up the title a week ago with a couple of games to spare. Individually, Messi has registered one of his poorest returns in front of goal with only four goals so far in the League.

Busquets meanwhile will finish his first season as Barcelona captain trophyless. The Blaugrana have struggled to adapt to life post-Messi. Their rivals Real Madrid have pipped them to the La Liga title while their European exploits didn’t bear fruits either.

Messi’s exit from Barcelona was unexpected as he believed he would agree on a contract extension. However, the ballooning wage bill of the Catalans saw the Argentine call it quits on a glorious career in Barcelona.

Messi voted best player of the 21st century

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported that Lionel Messi had beaten his arch-nemesis, Cristiano Ronaldo, to the best player of the 21st century.

Four Four Two magazine compiled a list that put the Argentina captain ahead of Ronaldo. Football has been treated to some intense rivalry between the two football greats.

The two have a combined 12 Ballon d’Or awards with Messi ahead with 7 to his name.
