  • Xavi Hernandez has disclosed what he told Lionel Messi after Paris Saint-Germain's exit from the UEFA Champions League
  • French champions PSG suffered a shock elimination from Europe when they threw away a two-nil lead on aggregate against Real Madrid
  • The playing body came under a lot of scrutinies with Messi, Neymar and Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma singled out for a huge chunk of the backlash

FC Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has shed light on the message he sent to former teammate Lionel Messi after PSG were booted out of Europe.

Messi's PSG went to the famous Santiago Bernabeu with a 1-0 lead on aggregate and made qualification a seeming reality when Mbappe broke the deadlock in Madrid to make the aggregate two-nil in favour of the French side.

However, Karim Benzema had other ideas as he inspired the Los Blancos to one of their historic comebacks in Europe when he netted a hattrick to overcome PSG on aggregate.

After the embarrassing defeat and exit, Messi and Neymar have been singled out for public backlash for what the fans deem as underwhelming from their superstars.

Since the exit former teammates of Messi have reached out to console the Argentine captain including Xavi Hernandez.

According to the Spaniard he reached out to the Barcelona legend on that Wednesday night to share some words of support, per SportBible.

"I have a friendly relationship with Messi and we are talking," the Spaniard explained ahead of Sunday's La Liga clash with Osasuna. Yes, I sent him a message to encourage him after the game." Xavi stressed.
He added: "It was a duel that changed in 20 or 25 minutes in which Madrid had faith and desire and turned the scoreboard in a match that was very difficult. The Champions League is like that. When you lower the intensity a bit, the rival ends up running over you."
"I think that's what happened in that game and that's why Madrid was able to qualify. A bad moment condemns you to the Champions League." The Barcelona coach ended.

Hurt PSG fans taunt Messi, Neymar and other superstars

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Paris Saint-Germain beat Ligue 1 strugglers Bordeaux 3-0 on Sunday amid incessant whistles directed at stars including Lionel Messi and Neymar from home fans furious at another European exit.

Amid a gloomy atmosphere in the French capital, only Kylian Mbappe, who scored both goals in the last-16 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid, escaped the wrath of the fans.

On Sunday, Mbappe was again on target, scoring the opening goal after 24 minutes with Neymar and Leandro Paredes adding two more in the second half.
