Paris Saint-German forward Lionel Messi has come under fire following his abysmal performance in their loss to Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

The Los Blancos pulled off one of the great Champions League comebacks on Wednesday as Karim Benzema scored a breath-taking hat-trick to upstage Kylian Mbappe and dump the French giants out in the last 16.

Unlike Mbappe, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner failed to make an impact against his old foes, with the closest he came to scoring was his late free-kick which did not trouble Thibaut Courtois.

Messi who had not scored a goal against Real Madrid in nine games was expected to make amends at the Santiago Bernabeu after he missed a penalty at the Parc des Princes in the reverse fixture three weeks ago.

But he had a difficult night against the 13-time European Champions, as per sofascore, Messi lost possession 11 times, had zero shot on target, had four successful dribbles and he was rated 7.2.

This led fans on Twitter to blast the Argentine captain for his poor display:
