A supporter-led petition demanding Real Madrid sell Kylian Mbappé has accumulated more than four million signatures, according to reports, reflecting a significant deterioration in the relationship between the French forward and a section of the club’s fanbase.

The petition, which has circulated widely across social media platforms, urges supporters to “make your voice heard” if they believe personnel changes are necessary for the club’s future direction. The volume of signatures underlines the scale of discontent that has built around Mbappé since his high-profile arrival at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Much of the frustration stems from a decision by Mbappé to holiday in Sardinia with his girlfriend, Ester Expósito, while he was sidelined with a hamstring injury. Many supporters viewed the trip as poorly timed given Real Madrid’s disappointing league campaign. His representatives pushed back against the criticism, stating that his rehabilitation was being “strictly supervised by the club” and describing the public reaction as an “overinterpretation” of events.

Compounding the situation, reports suggest Mbappé was involved in a heated altercation with a member of Real Madrid’s coaching staff during a training session. According to those reports, the forward verbally insulted a staff member after being flagged offside during an internal training match, with the episode allegedly having a negative effect on the atmosphere within the dressing room.

Despite the reports of the training-ground incident, no internal disciplinary action is expected to be taken against Mbappé. Interim manager Álvaro Arbeloa addressed questions about his players’ conduct off the pitch, stating that what they do in their private time is “none of his business.”

The off-field turbulence arrives at a particularly difficult moment for Real Madrid on the pitch. The club currently trails La Liga leaders FC Barcelona by 11 points and has already been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League this season — a stark contrast to the continental dominance Los Blancos enjoyed in recent years, having won the Champions League in 2022, 2024, and 2025.

Mbappé joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 on a free transfer after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired, ending years of speculation about his next club. The move was widely regarded as one of the most anticipated transfers in football history, but his first full season in Madrid has not matched the expectations that accompanied his arrival.

With La Liga’s final weeks approaching and Real Madrid’s title ambitions all but extinguished, the pressure on Mbappé is unlikely to ease. Should results fail to improve before the season concludes, the debate around the 26-year-old’s future at the club is expected to intensify further.
