Benni McCarthy's impact at Manchester United is of no surprise to Ndumiso Mabena.

McCarthy and Mabena were vital cogs in Orlando Pirates winning the Treble during the 2011/2012 season. The 35-year-old, who was 24 at the time, had already been influenced by the Red Devils' attacking coach back then and is not surprised by the impact he has had at Old Trafford under Erik Ten Hag.

Mabena said to IOL:

“He’s been my role model ever since I have been playing football. Seeing him coaching at Manchester United makes me proud. Ever since he got there, Marcus Rashford has been scoring regularly. We have to learn from him. He has done well consistently."

How McCarthy rejuvenated United's attack

The appointment of former Premier League striker, Benni McCarthy as one of Erik ten Hag's technical team members seems to have had a ripple effect on the club's fortunes this season.

McCarthy joined the Red Devils as an offensive coach after the season had begun. He has so far been credited with Marcus Rashford's upturn in form, with the English forward the hottest commodity in European football at the moment.

The Mirror reports that Sancho noticed his touch with players and requested a one-on-one session with McCarthy.

Rappers pay tribute to McCarthy

In 1998 ahead of the FIFA World Cup, TKZee and Benni McCarthy collaborated on 'Shibobo', one of the greatest hits in South African music history.

Now, 25 years later, another group of musicians has paid tribute to the current Manchester United forwards coach. Cape Town rappers YoungstaCPT and Shaney Jay have joined forces to release 'Benni McCarthy'.

The song is a straightforward tribute to the Bafana Bafana legend, also chronicling the path that he took to get where he is on the world football stage.
