Orlando Pirates is through to the Carling Black Label Cup final.

In a drab second semi-final at Soccer City, they defeated their Soweto arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs 6-5 on penalties in matching weather on Saturday. The match had ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw.

They will now take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the final, while the losers will meet AmaZulu in the earlier 3rd/4th place play-off match. Chances were few and far between as both teams - yet again - cancelled each other out.

Vincent Pule sank the dagger into the Amakhosi's hearts with the winning penalty, with S'fiso Hlanthi having missed his spot kick. Earlier, the Amakhosi were denied a legitimate goal after the linesman and referee wrongly called an offside.

Both teams struggled for ascendancy in the encounter, with barely an open opportunity for both attackers.

Kgaugelo Sekgotha bore down on goals with just Siyabonga Mpontshane just to beat, but a last-ditch tackle from Bandile Shandu denied him the opportunity to pull the trigger.

Earlier, the Brazilians swatted aside Usuthu 3-0 in the morning kick-off, with the men from Tshwane signalling their intent in their first-ever appearance in the four-team tournament.

Mamelodi Sundowns easily smashes AmaZulu

Mamelodi Sundowns effortlessly booked their place in the final of the Carling Black Label Cup.

As reported by Sports Brief, the Brazilians overwhelmed AmaZulu 3-0 in the first semi-final of the competition at Soccer City.

Sundowns now await the last hurdle against Orlando Pirates, while AmaZulu will go into the 3rd/4th place play-off against Kaizer Chiefs.
