Two South African coaches are in the running for a prestigious Confederation of African Football (CAF) award.

Former Al Ahly coach, Pitso Mosimane and Orlando Pirates’ assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi, have been nominated in the CAF Coach of the Year category.

Mosimane led the Red Devils to a CAF Champions League final while Ncikazi led Pirates, along with Fadlu Davids, to the CAF Confederation Cup final.

As reported by Sport24, Carlos Queiroz (Who led Egypt to the AFCON final), Florent Ibenge (who won the CAF Confederation Cup with RS Berkane) and Walid Ragrigui (Wydad AC’s CAF Champions League-winning coach) were also nominated for the award.

Egypt’s Al Ahly and South Africa’s Orlando Pirates were also nominated in the Team of the Year category.

The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, 21 July in Morocco.

Pitso Mosimane Nominated for Manager of the Year Award Alongside Zinedine Zidane and Pep Guardiola

Pitso Mosimane has been nominated for the prestigious Manager of the Year award by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).

Mosimane is nominated alongside some big names in football coaching, such as coach Zinedine Zidane and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

The South African coach has won four titles with Al Ahly since joining the club with a surprise move in 2020.

Al Ahly mentor Pitso Mosimane has etched his name in the history books on the African continent after being named 2021 Best African Club Coach of the Year by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).

Mosimane led the Red Devils to two consecutive CAF Champions League titles, the latest of these coming in July after thrashing Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 in the final.

Jingles' also led Al Ahly to their best-ever finish in the FIFA Club World Cup when the Egyptian giants clinched third place in a 3-2 penalty shootout win over Palmeiras in a playoff.
