  • As expected, the mass exodus that was expected out of Orlando Pirates is starting to pick up pace as the club looks to revamp the senior squad
  • Five players will either leave the Buccaneers permanently or go out on loan for game time ahead of next season
  • Surprisingly, highly-rated DStv Diski Challenge goal machine Boitumelo Radiopane was one of the players sent out on loan when he was expected to get a run in the senior team

There has been more player movement out of Orlando Pirates as expected during the off-season.

Four players will go out on loan, with one leaving on a permanent basis as the squad receives a revamp ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

According to The Citizen, midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu will head out to DStv Premiership new boys Richards Bay FC on loan, as well as defender Bongani Sam to Maritzburg United in the same capacity as a loanee. Tshegofatso Mabasa and Linda Mtambo will move to Sekhukhune United on loan and permanently respectively, while surprisingly, the promising goal-getter Boitumelo Radiopane will move down to Cape Town Spurs on loan.

"Radio Man", as Radiopane is known, was the leading goalscorer in the DStv Diski Challenge, and was expected to make a bow in the senior squad that is sorely missing a goal scorer currently.

The club said in a statement:

“Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that it has reached an agreement with Richards Bay for the services of Nkanyiso Zungu on a season-long loan for the upcoming 2022/23 season. Orlandopiratesfc.com can also confirm the departure of strikers Tshegofatso Mabasa and Boitumelo Radiopane who will be joining Sekhukhune United and Cape Town Spurs respectively.”

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands to be offered coaching role as retirements beckons

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands is reportedly set to remain at Orlando Pirates from next season.

As reported by Sports Brief, the 38-year-old has apparently been offered a goalkeeper coach position within the club's structures, getting the opportunity to work his way upwards possibly into the senior team one day. It was reported back in February that Sandilands was considering retirement as the club had not, and did not intend to extend his contract.

Another report quoted a supposed source at the club as confirming that Sandilands wouldn't be walking the Sea Robbers' ship just yet.
