Ghanaian striker Kwame Peprah scored for Orlando Pirates on Tuesday evening as they defeated Maritzburg United in Soweto in the DStv Premiership clash.

The Buccaneers recorded a resounding 4-1 victory over Maritzburg United in their match-day 28 clash at the Orlando Stadium.

Kwame Peprah stuck home from the edge of the box into the bottom left corner as the ball grazed the inside of the post for Pirates second goal on the stroke of half time.

Peprah, who lasted 72 minutes in the five-goal fest, takes his goal tally to six in 23 appearances for Orlando Pirates in his first season.

The former King Faisal Babes talisman joined Pirates at the beginning of the 2021-22 season in a deal worth around US$150,000.

Thembinkosi Lorch (21st minute), who was in sublime form, Kwame Peprah (42nd), Deon Hotto (60th) and Kabelo Dlamini (69th) were the goal scorers for Pirates while Friday Samu (63rd) scored for the Team of Choice.

Pirates still have two games to play as they can finish second if they win all their remaining games. The Soweto-based club boast a healthy goal difference compared to second-placed Cape Town City.

The Buccaneers will now need victories against Royal AM in Durban on Friday and SuperSport United in Atteridgeville on Monday to end second.

Kwame Peprah nominated for Top Award in South Africa

Sports Brief earlier reported that Ghanaian forward Kwame Peprah has been nominated for the Young Player of the Season in South Africa's top flight.

The 20-year-old has impressed in his maiden season for Orlando Pirates, scoring five goals in 21 games for the Pirates.

Peprah will compete for the award against Athenkosi Mcaba of Stellenbosch FC and SuperSport United star Luke Fleurs.
