Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori and his compatriot Kwame Peprah helped Orlando Pirates reach the finals of the 2021-22 CAF Confederations Cup finals on Sunday evening.

Orlando Pirates had to survive a nervy reverse tie at the Orlando Stadium to qualify for the finals on a 2-1 aggregate at the expense of Libyan outfit Al Ahly Tripoli.

And the Ghanaian contingent of the Buccaneers played a pivotal role in attaining the feat.

Going into the second leg of their semifinal tie with Al Ahly Tripoli, the 1995 CAF Champions League winners had a two-nil advantage and were in pole position to reach their first continental finals since 2013.

What ensued in the reverse tie would surprise the home side, who were pinned in their own half as the Libyans sought redemption.

A fiery Al Ahly attack was thwarted by an inspired Richard Ofori, who pulled stupendous saves to keep the Libyans at bay at halftime.

It was more of the same as Al Ahly bombarded the goal area of Pirates with incessant attacks.

Ali Abu Arqoub put the cat amongst the pigeons when he scored in the 88th minute. His long-range strike took a deflection of Goodman Mosele and beat a helpless Ofori.

The goal gave them a sniff at levelling the tie. They pushed forward for the remaining minutes and extra time but could not find an equaliser.

Orlando Pirates secure CAF Confederations Cup final berth

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Orlando Pirates are through to the 2021/22 CAF Confederations Cup final.

The Buccaneers secured victory on aggregate against Libya’s Al Ahly Tripoli after a 1-0 loss at the Orlando Stadium.

After securing a 2-0 win in the first leg in Libya, Pirates expected Al Ahly to come out fighting and that’s what they got. Mohammed el Fakih had the first shot on goal for the Libyan side, sending his long-range effort just over the bar.
