  • Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi has apologised for his Woolworths-Pick n Pay analogy with regards to Mamelodi Sundowns' spending power
  • However, he continued throwing jibes at the Brazilian's co-coach Rulani Mokwena in the continuing war of words
  • This was not long after Amazulu assistant Siyabonga Nomvethe joined in on the fracas in the media yesterday

Outspoken Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi has apologised to the Buccaneers for recent controversial comments he made.

His controversial analogy to explain Mamelodi Sundowns' transfer market power was that the Brazilians did their shopping at Woolworths, while Pirates did so at Woolworths. This did not go down well with Sundowns' co-coach Rulani Mokwena, who fired back, starting a war of words through the media.

According to The South African, Ncikazi has come out and apologised for the statement, though he couldn't resist throwing in an underhanded shot at Mokwena.

Ncikazi said in an interview on SAFM with Thabiso Mosia:

"I’d like to apologize to the supporters of Orlando Pirates for my comments about Woolworths and Pick n Pay. “I didn’t mean to offend anyone. There’s already comments from other teams and because of that I won’t say anything further because I think that person (Mamelodi Sundowns’ Rhulani Mokwena) has an issue with me and Pirates.
“I don’t even want to clarify myself cos I don’t want to cause anymore controversy. Especially after the person who commented said those things. He has never had anything nice to say about me or Orlando Pirates anyway.”

Siyabonga Nomvethe takes a shot at Rulani Mokwena, saying that Mamelodi Sundowns has all the best players

First it was Mandla Ncikazi, and now it is Siyabonga Nomvete who has joined on the chorus of people bemoaning Mamelodi Sundowns' spending power.

As reported on Sports Brief, Nomvethe, an assistant coach at Amazulu, believes that the Brazilians' limitless budget means that they will dominate the DStv Premiership for a while yet, boasting 75% of the league's best players.

Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi had said that Sundowns does its shopping at Woolworths, while the other teams did son at Pick n Pay.
