The fallout over Simba SC players allegedly using muthi before the CAF Confederations Cup match against Orlando Pirates on Sunday.

The players were seen dancing around a burning object on the centre line just before kickoff during the warm-ups. A Pirates official was then seen dousing out the object with bemused CAF officials watching on.

Divine intervention did not come to the visitor's aid, as Orlando Pirates went on to win the tie 4-3 on penalties after it ended 1-1 on aggregate. The incident has been a subject of debate among football fans at home and abroad, with the use of muthi or juju a fascinating aspect of African football culture for a very long time.

Simba SC coach Pablo Franco Martin was forthright about his team's ritual before the match against Orlando Pirates in Soweto last Sunday.

As reported by Sports Brief, players huddled around an object on the centre circle at Orlando Stadium, dancing, chanting and singing.

To all those in attendance and at home, this was undeniably the practice of witchcraft, particularly muthi or juju.
