  • Orlando Pirates has been urged quickly and snap up Benni McCarthy after he became a free agent
  • McCarthy parted ways amicably with Amazulu last week after Usuthu's poor run of form this season
  • The former Bafana Bafana striker would be completing something of a homecoming, as he inspired the Buccaneers to a treble in 2012

The 44-year-old has been linked with his former club since last Friday, with Kaizer Chiefs also thrown in the mix as a possible next destination

Current co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids are not regarded fondly right now by Pirates supporters, who are demanding that they be shown the door.

McCarthy's agent Rob Moore told Soccer Laduma that the former Usuthu coach would take a break to be with his family, then take the time to reassess his options moving forward. This fuelled rumours of him joining a Soweto giant next season

James Mothibi also told Soccer Laduma:

“With Benni now available, I think he would be ready to coach Orlando Pirates. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Benni going to Pirates and I know how the chairman operates when dealing with such situations, he gets out of his way to get whoever he wants.
"I know the chairman would welcome the opportunity of having one of his sons back at the club. He called Benni when he was nearing retirement from his playing days to come and play for Pirates and that happened, and he can do the same now that Benni is a coach.
"I know there will be a lot of happy people if they see Benni coaching Pirates although some people are talking about his experience, and I don’t know how one can question Benni’s experience when he won the UEFA Champions League.
"People shouldn’t talk about experience, especially the supporters because one can only get the experience when thrown into the deep end. Benni is familiar with the culture of Pirates and is familiar with the Pirates family and I am sure he would lead the club to success.
“Having said that, I still maintain that Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids should be retained as part of the technical team, and it would be nice to see them work with Benni. As the trio of coaches, Benni, Mandla and Fadlu would do well.

"Mandla and Fadlu haven’t done badly this season although there have been some games, I felt that they should have approached differently. But overall, they contributed positively to the team’s progress and with the addition of Benni to the set-up, they could do very well.

The team would be able to turn the many draws they had this season into wins, and I am saying that AmaZulu have lost a very good asset in Benni."

"I want him at Pirates": Football fans reel as Amazulu fires Benni Mccarthy, with next club being discussed

South African football continued to reel at news that Amazulu had sacked coach Benni McCarthy.

After an excellent start at the club in late 2020 where he led Usuthu to a second place finish, the second season blues struck McCarthy and his charges.

As reported by Sports Brief, football observers immediately started speculating about his next club, with the Soweto giants mentioned either jokingly or seriously.
