Pirates came from behind in December to beat Amazulu 2-1 in the DStv Premiership and last week, the Pirates Reserves beat Amazulu Reserves 2-0 in the DStv Diski Challenge.

Orlando Pirates co-coach, Fadlu Davids, said he expected Amazulu to come out guns blazing against them in the Nedbank Cup fixture, Soccer Laduma reported.

Pirates’ other coach Mandla Ncikazi also touched on the upcoming game, saying that Pirates would be giving everything to the cup competition.

With Mamelodi Sundowns 14 points ahead in the DStv Premiership, Ncikazi admitted that only Sundowns could throw away the title and therefore Pirates had to focus on the Nedbank Cup, The South African reported.

On the other end of the coin, Amazulu coach Benni McCarthy has stated that he won’t go easy on his former side. As reported by IOL, Benni said that he would not hold back against a former employer.

“When I meet Pirates, I want to win wholeheartedly. That's why there’s more passion involved,” Benni was quoted as saying.

Pirates and Amazulu will clash at 3pm at the Orlando Stadium on 6 February 2022.

Mamelodi Sundowns down Richards Bay in the Nedbank Cup, score 4 to book their place in the next round

In other Nedbank Cup news, it was no surprise that DStv Premiership log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns beat Richards Bay in their Nedbank Cup clash but it was a surprise who scored, Sports Brief, reported.

Surprise Ralani marked his Sundowns debut with a goal as the Brazilians cruised to a 4-0 win over their GladAfrica Championship opponents. Richards Bay started much the better side. The Rich Boys had more possession of the ball in the first half as Sundowns didn’t seem to settle at all.

Richards Bay couldn’t capitalize on their few counter-attacks and were punished for it in the 25th minute when Surprise Ralani scored. Richards Bay keeper Malcolm Jacobs punched away a cross straight into the path of Ralani who put the ball away.
