  • Tshegofatso Mabasa joined Premier Soccer League's Orlando Pirates from Bloemfontein Celtic 3 years ago
  • Tshegofatso Mabasa has extended his deal with the Buccaneers but not all fans are thrilled with the news

Tshegofatso Mabasa will remain an Orlando Pirates player and help the Buccaneers fight for top place in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Mabasa joined the Sowetan giants from Bloemfontein Celtic three years ago and was entering the last six months of his contract, meaning he was able to negotiate with other clubs.

Orlando Pirates had the option to extend his contract by two years which they since did, Soccer Laduma reported. He will now remain at the Buccaneers until June 2024.

Orlando Pirates have been impressed with the striker thus far and he came in for high praise from co-coach, Fazlu Davids last year The South African reported.

“He always has a goal in him, he’s a different type of striker to what we have, and he’s always in the right place at the right time. Not a lot of players have that instinct, that ability to smell being in the right position. He has it,” Davids was quoted as saying in the article.

But while the coaches are happy with his progress and performances, some fans believe that the club could have brought in other players or signed contract extensions of Pirates players who have shown more promise.

Letlotlo Aaron Thabo Maupa:

"Who ever is responsible on negotiating and signing players and coaching department at Pirates needs to get his/her head examined for mental illness. You cannot release players like Memela, Mlambo, Mulenga, Munenzi and keep average players like this one made mentioned above. He only scored one single goal and miss four after 5 games."

Smangaliso Surprise Ngcobo I:

"As long as he's on the bench we are happy as a country"

Lelethu Caine:

"He must go"

Malawi's Gabadinho Mhango comes in for high praise from football fans, Orlando Pirates striker is hot property

In other Orlando Pirates related news, Malawi's striker Gabadinho Mhango has become a name every football lover is talking about after his performances at AFCON 2021, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Mhango scored twice to help Malawi to third place in Group B where they now wait to see if they qualify for the round of 16 stage of the tournament. Mhango has scored twice in the competition thus far, and despite not scoring against Senegal, he still put on a great performance.

Malawi and Senegal drew 0-0 in the final group game which saw Senegal top the group, BBC reported. Mhango's two goals meant that he's scored one more than Sadio Mane and Mo Salah, two players plying their trade in England's top flight.
