American news channel, Cable News Network have mistakenly used the photo of Ghana legend Abedi Pele to announce the death of Pele.

Three-time World Cup winner Pele died on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at the age of 2022.

While the news of Pele's death sent shocked waves across the world, many turned to their television only to see Abedi Pele photo reported as the dead Pele.

Tributes pour in for Pele

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the sporting world has taken to various social media platforms to pay tributes to the legendary Brazil football icon Pele, who passed on on Thursday, December 29, 2022.

Pele, the only player to win the World Cup three times died at age 82.

The former footballer is regarded as the greatest of all time following his trailblazing achievements in the game.

How Pele helped end war

Brazilian legend Pele passed away on December 29, after battling colon cancer following surgery to remove a tumour in September 2021.

He is widely regarded as the greatest to ever play the game of football, as he was diagnosed with a respiratory infection before subsequently being moved to palliative care when his body became unresponsive to chemotherapy.

Even after his demise, his legendary status remains and his life and times remain in the record books.
