  • Victor Osimhen proved too much to handle for Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and his colleagues
  • The Nigerian international ran riot in the first half of their Champions League clash as Napoli won the tie 4-1
  • Former Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate was so impressed with the performance of the former Lille of France striker

A former defender at Spanish club Real Madrid, Jonathan Woodgate, has disclosed that Nigerian international Victor Osimhen is destined for the English Premier League.

Woodgate was stunned by Osimhen’s performance in Napoli’s 4-1 win over Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.

Although the Super Eagles forward missed a penalty during the encounter, he gave the entire Liverpool defence a tough time as he proved too hot to handle.

Osimhen, who looked injured for most parts of the first half, was later replaced in the 43rd minute, but he already left an indelible mark as far as Woodgate is concerned.

The former Real Madrid star told The Boot Room via Punch:

“The two centre-halves (Van Dijk and Joe Gomez) will be absolutely delighted to see the back of Osimhen after he was substituted because he was so difficult to play against. He is destined for the Premier League.”

Unbeaten in their last 16 matches in all competitions, Luciano Spalletti’s men face Spezia in Saturday’s league outing before an away fixture against Scottish Premiership side Glasgow Rangers.

Napoli fans scramble to take selfies with Osimhen

Meanwhile, Nigerian international Victor Osimhen is gradually becoming a cult hero in Naples following his impressive form for Serie A outfit Napoli.

The 23-year-old joined the Partenopeans from Ligue 1 side Lille in the summer of 2020 in a deal reported to be worth €50 million (£45m/$59m).

Nigerian journalist Oma Akatugba, at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Napoli, shared the moment that the security officials and fans tried to take selfies with the striker.

Mutiu Adepoju likens Umar Sadiq with Rashidi Yekini

Sports Brief earlier reported that former Nigerian international Mutiu Adepoju has stated that Real Sociedad's new signing, Umar Sadiq, reminds him of ex-Super Eagles forward Rashidi Yekini.

According to Adepoju, the lanky Umar, who has been impressive in recent times, has all it takes to catch up with Yekini.

The former midfielder stated in a chat with Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo that the former Almeria striker has the ability to adapt quickly.
