Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has expressed disappointment over the penalty he missed while playing for Napoli against Liverpool on Wednesday night, 7 September in the Champions League.

Luciano Spalletti and his wards had a good day in office against the Premier League giants as they recorded an emphatic 4-1 win over Jurgen Klopp's side.

Victor Osimhen and his teammates started the encounter aggressively and they waited for only five minutes before netting their first goal through Piotr Zieliński via a penalty.

The Nigerian striker had the chance to increase Napoli's lead in the 18th minute when he was brought down by defender Dijk, but he strike was saved by goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Victor Osimhen later got injured in the match and was substituted as Napoli went on to record impressive win over the Anfield landlords.

And after the encounter, Nigerian reporter, Oma Akatugba, spoke with Osimhen where the striker revealed in the video interview that the penalty miss against Liverpool was the first in his career.

''It was the first time in my career missing a penalty and the good thing was that we ended up winning the Champions League encounter which was a great one for us.
''On the injury I sustained, I don't think it is a big one, but I will wait for the medical team to examine me and from then we shall know what next.''

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Nigerian international Victor Osimhen is gradually becoming a cult hero in Naples following his impressive form for Serie A outfit Napoli.

The 23-year-old joined the Partenopeans from Ligue 1 side Lille in the summer of 2020 in a deal reported to be worth €50 million (£45m/$59m).

Osimhen has scored a total of 30 goals in all competitions since joining the club, including 18 goals last season.

He was in action as they welcomed English club Liverpool in their opening match of the UEFA Champions League and was brutal in the first half before he was substituted.

The Super Eagles striker hit the woodwork in the first three minutes of the game before Piotr Zielinski put the Italians ahead from the spot in the fifth minute.
