  • Napoli failed in their pursuit to open an early gap on the Serie A table when they had to settle for a point against a determined Fiorentina side
  • Chances were aplenty for both sides in the game but none could take their chances as both sides picked their second successive clean sheets
  • Ricardo Sottil and Victor Osimen came close for their sides with the latter having a goal disallowed for offside

Fiorentina held Napoli to an entertaining goalless draw in the third round of Serie A action on Sunday evening. Napoli headed into the game having started the season brightly but failed to breach Fiorentina's defence.

The hosts started the brighter of the two sides and within the first three minutes of the clash, André-Frank Zambo Anguissa was already on the referee's book for a rough tackle.

Fiorentina maintained the high tempo with Riccardo Sottil being a constant menace for Giovanni Di Lorenzo on the left wing. Sottil threatened Alex Meret in the Napoli goal a couple of times but the goalkeeper was equal to the task every time.

Just before the break, Victor Osimhen thought he had given Napoli the lead. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who appeared lively for Napoli, delivered a teasing cross into the Fiorentina area that was spurned away, only to find Osimhen. The Nigerian striker tapped into an empty net.

His celebration was however shortlived as he was found to be in no man's land.

The teams remained evenly matched after the break until the hour mark when Fiorentina head coach Vincenzo Italiano introduced Christian Koume. The Ivory Coast winger almost created a chance instantly but Antonin Barak flashed his shot wide.

Giacomo Raspadori similarly came off the bench for Napoli and stung the hands of Pierluigi Gollini.

Napoli missed an opportunity to open an early gap on their rivals. They still lead the standings with 7 points from a possible 9. Fiorentina are ninth with 5 points.

Jose Mourinho appears to vanish during Roma Press Conference

Sports Brief had earlier reported that fans on social media were left stunned after Jose Mourinho seemingly ‘disappeared’ during a press conference recently.

Mourinho is known for many things in his long coaching stint, but fans would have never anticipated magic tricks to be one of them.

The AS Roma gaffer was on media duty in the build-up to the crunch match between his side and Juventus when an interesting camera illusion took place right toward the end of his remarks
