The towering defender was born in France but opted to play for the country of his parents at the senior level.

Edouard Mendy reminisces Senegal's AFCON glory

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has no words to describe the Teranga Lions' triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations a week ago.

Mendy rejoined his Chelsea teammates a few hours after Senegal's AFCON winning team were given a heroes welcome in Dakar to help the Blues to another title.

Speaking to Chelsea's media after making history with Senegal, the 29-year-old could not believe what he saw on their return to Dakar.

African champions Senegal build new stadium

The government of Senegal has outdoored the country's newly-built state of the art stadium in Diamniadio in the presence of thousands of fans of the national team.

Having won the Africa Cup of Nations early this month, the West African football powerhouse followed their success with the stadium's completion, which will host all their international matches.

At a ceremony in the country's capital Dakar, Senegal President Macky Sall revealed the stadium is named after the former head of state, Abdoulaye Wade.
