  • Sandro Tonali scores twice to help AC Milan come from behind and make one step closer to winning the Serie A title for the first time in over ten years
  • AC Milan now have 80 points, two more than their cross-city rivals and defending champions Inter Milan with two games left to play
  • Inter Milan will play Cagliari and Sampdoria in their last matches while AC Milan will face Atalanta and Sassuolo

AC Milan took another huge step towards winning the Serie A title with a 3-1 victory over Verona on Sunday. Sandro Tonali bagged a brace with Alessandro Florenzi adding a third one to take AC Milan two points clear.

Verona threatened to spoil the title march when they went ahead in the 38th minute through Davide Faraoni. Rafael Leao, however, dodged through a couple of challenges in the Verona box before laying it to Sandro Tonali who equalized just before halftime.

The pair were at it again after the break. This time Tonali, who was celebrating his 22nd birthday, tapped into an empty net after a brilliant run from Leao.

Full back Alessandro Florenzi marked his return from injury with a wonderful third goal to confirm all the three points.

Inter Milan still chasing their rivals

The hunt for the Scudetto will go down the wire with defending Champions Inter Milan hoping for a slip up from their rivals. Inter Milan themselves came from behind to beat Empoli 4-2 on Friday. Lautaro Martinez was the star of the comeback after Simone Inzaghi’s men had gone 2-0 down. That win temporarily took them to the top of the table.

Inter Milan will now shift its attention to the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday. They play Juventus as both teams seek to end the season with a piece of silverware. Thereafter, they will face relegation candidates Cagliari before taking on Sampdoria in their final two games of the season.

AC Milan, meanwhile, have a tricky tie against 7th placed Atalanta. Atalanta are chasing a UEFA Europa League spot in what could be a real test for Stefano Pioli’s side. The Rossoneri will then wrap up their campaign against Sassuolo.

Koulibaly regrets waiting for too long for France call up

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly regrets taking too long to turn out for the Senegal national team.

Koulibaly was born to Senegalese parents in France and was eligible to represent either of the two countries. He turned out for France youth teams before making the decision to play for the Lions of Teranga at the age of 24.

His Napoli side, have fallen off the race of the Scudetto. They are in the third position with 73 points, 7 off AC Milan with two games left to play.
