AC Milan have shown incredible support towards Ukraine through the release of a special edition shirt, inspired by their former striker Andriy Shevchenko.
Daily Mail reports that the Rossoneri’s kind gesture did not end there, as the club plans to use the proceeds of the shirt sales to victims of the Russian invasion.
The jerseys, which are simply beautiful to look at, derive inspiration from the 2002-03 Champions League final kit which Shevchenko famously wore in Manchester against Juventus.
However, there is a slight modification in the shirts to incorporate the Ukraine flags on the shoulders, while the front will have an AC Milan for peace theme.
In the place of the club's manufacturer's logo will also be the Ukraine flag in an exemplary show of respect to the country and its humanitarian efforts.
Andriy Shevchenko’s Milan connection
AC Milan have a special relationship with Andriy Shevchenko as the Ukrainian set himself up nicely in Rosonneri’s history books during his playing days.
At Milan, Shevchenko netted an impressive 173 goals in 296 appearances and ended up picking the 2004 Ballon d’or.
He also led the Italian giants to the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League.
After a successful stint with AC Milan, he moved to Chelsea in 2006.
His former club’s gesture comes barely days after Shevchenko appeared on an Italian TV station with a tearful interview, admitting that he feared for his family’s safety in Ukraine amid Russia’s attacks which entered its 15th day.
“My mum, my sister and other relatives of mine are still in Ukraine, I speak to them every day. It was their choice to stay,” he explained.
